Episodi 8
The keys of success of social entrepreneurship
The myth
Artemis was one of the oldest and most revered deities in Greek mythology. She was the great goddess of nature, protecting agriculture and livestock. That is to say, their environment. We could therefore be in front of the first great ecological awareness of antiquity, the first sustainable entrepreneur.

‘We try to be rooted in the territory and engage with all public and private bodies in the area. The workers at risk of exclusion who work in La Fageda all come from La Garrotxa ’.
‘In La Fageda we have 500 people working with us, taking into account the different services. Of these, 300 were at risk of exclusion ’.
‘Profits are not distributed, they remain. We need to make a profit, but our 'non-profit' characteristic keeps the profits we make in the company.'
‘We always say that we are livestock farmers. But the milk we produce is not standardised, only the fat is removed to make the skimmed yoghurt. If you take care of the cattle, they will produce good things.'
Start up with values
Social entrepreneurship is a model in which the goal is not to focus on economic benefit, but on improving society and the environment.
This is what characterises La Fageda, a project that since 1982 has been looking after La Garrotxa and the inclusion of people working in the area with very clear values:
- Improving the quality of life
- Inclusion of vulnerable groups
- Creation of new jobs
- Commitment with the surrounding community
- Positive social and environmental impact
