How to capture talent and retain it
The myth
Chiron, son of Cronus and Philyra, was the wisest, fairest, and kindest of all the centaurs in Greek mythology. Tutor of Olympic heroes such as Achilles, Theseus, Jason and Aeneas. He was the master of masters, the mentor in capital letters. Even Apollo himself entrusted him with his son Asclepius to educate him. With his knowledge and skills, he was able to gain the trust of the people around him, in the same way that to start a business you need to surround yourself with a favourable ecosystem that allows you to attract talent and retain it.
The guest
Carlota Pi is the pioneer of the rooftop revolution. A Catalan engineer and businesswoman who founded the 100% green electricity company Holaluz, promoted with two of her colleagues from IESE, Oriol Vila and Ferran Nogué. She is speaking with Jaume Baró, operational director of the Services for Companies of Barcelona Activa.
‘A well-run company that is able to find its way to profitability should become a tool to make the world a better place’.
‘We were clear that we wanted to reach an honest and responsible commitment towards future generations'.
‘Having a company that has a purpose, that is genuinely transcendent, that people can sign up for and put their energy into making their revolution converge because people have the same goal’.
‘Barcelona Activa forms part of our DNA. We remember having a great time, meeting brilliant people, I feel very privileged to be part of this tribe, of those touched by Barcelona Activa’.
‘Trust is gained primarily from credibility. It’s not an end in itself, it’s the consequence of carrying out one’s own values’.
Build trust and create a business project that attracts and retains talent
Holaluz represents a watershed in the world of electric companies, just as Chiron also transformed his disciples. That’s why they share some lessons to create a strong, motivated and involved work team:
- Having a transcendent and genuine purpose so that the workers share the same goals.
- Forming part of an ecosystem where you can connect with entrepreneurs with similar projects.
- Honesty and coherence with corporate values, trust is earned with credibility.
- Knowing how to listen and being open to sharing different points of view and pivoting.
